h ' This letter' transmits the findings of the safety inspection conducted by NRC inspectors at

L the Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant from April 19,1998 to May 30,1998. The _

l< . enclosed report presents the results of that inspection. At the conclusion of the

inspection, the findings were discussed with Mr. Katz and others of your staff.

'Overall, the NRC has concluded that your facility was operated safely. During the period,

Unit 2 remained at full power while a refueling outage progressed on Unit 1. The outage

activities included operations and engineering support for inservice inspections of safety .

l- . operations were well controlled and the inspections were completed with very good

. engineering support.' Radiological controls were conducted under an agreement described

h ~ in an NRC Confirmatory Action Letter, issued on April 29,1998. No significant radiological

ls control problems occurred during the period.

Practice," a copy of this letter and its enclosures will be placed in the NRC Public

Document Room (PDR).
