the inspection.
- 3. Imports and Exports (85301)
The files for all imports of uranium occurring since the beginning of 1987 were requested by the inspectors. A total of seven imports were reviewed i and discussed with licensee personnel. Of these, one involved ore concentrates coming from South Africa, three were ore concentrates from Australia, one was low enriched UF6 from Russia, one was natural UF6 from France, and the last was low enriched fuel assemblies from Japan. Only one of these imports was identified as involving material of South African origin. When asked, the licensee stated that information concerning the country of origin for such material is always requested prior to importing it. i After completion of the inspection, the licensee contacted Ms. B. Wright on' June 10, 1987, and explained that one import file had been inadvertently i forgotten while the inspectors were at the licensee's facility (it was j locked in a safe). This file involved an import from Japan of U.S. origin i
high enriched uranium material in the form of spent research reactor fuel. ]
This material was imported under a general license and sent to the '
Savannah River Plant for reprocessing. Based on the information provided by the licensee, it was decided that a first-hand review of this file was i
)
unnecessary.
l A table summarizing the aforementioned imports is attached to this report.
No violations of or deviations from the requirements of the import licenses j held by the licensee were noted. l l
