SUMMARY

OF ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION PROGRAM RESPECTING CONSTRUCTION OF GRAND GULF NUCLEAR STATION (GGNS) UNIT 2 FOR SIX MONTHS ENDING JUNE 30, 1987 Construction Highlights o

Unit 2 construction was suspended in September 1985 with approximately 35% of field construction. completed based on the estimated manhours needed to complete the Unit. Minimal Unit 2 activities were for the purpose of long term equipment and structural maintenance.

Vehicular Movement o

No "off limit" violations were observed during the reporting period.

Dust Control o

No dust control violations were observed during the reporting period.

Smoke Control o

No smoke violations occurred during the six-month reporting period.

Erosion Control o

Rainfall was recorded on 45 occasions during the reporting period, with an accumulated rainfall of 31.92 inches.

Chemical & Solid Waste Control o

No violations or improprieties of Mississippi waste disposal regulations occurred.

Noise Control o

No excessive noise levels were detected during the reporting period.

Sediment Basins A & B o

There were no problems with either basin during the six-month reporting period.

The 12 regional groundwater wells were read 13 times during the reporting period.

Fluctuations in water levels could be attributed to heavy rainfall prior to monitoring activities.

o The perched aquifer wells were read monthly during the reporting period. No well exceeded the 109 feet Mean Sea Level design basis for GGNS.

Vegetation Survey o

No vegetational abnormalities were observed during the reporting period.

Transmission Lines o

No erosion problems associated with the GGNS transmission lines were identified during the reporting period.
