SUMMARY

OF MEETING ON JUNE 23,1998, REGARDING SPENT FUEL STORAGE PLANS AT VERMONT YANKEE NUCLEAR POWER STATION (TAC NO. MA1974)

On June 23,1998, representatives of VYNPC, licensee for the Vermont Yankee Nuclear Power Station met with members of the NRC staff to discuss plans and activities related to long-term spent fuel storage plans. Enclosure 1 is a list of attendees. Enclosure 2 contains copies of handouts distributed at the meeting.

The licensee indicated that it intended to make a license submittel in August 1998 to request NRC authorization for three additional spent fuel pool storage racks. The licensee is requesting approval by the first quarter of 2000. Without this authorization, the licensee will lose full core discharge capability in the spring of 2001.

The meeting was helpful in communicating the licensee's plans and activities in this area. ,
