RESIDENTS OF WEST CHICAGO, ILLIN0IS COMPLAIN ABOUT DUSTING PROBLEMS FROM KERR-MCGEE THORIUM ORE RESIDUE PILES.
A' resident of the City of West Chicago, Illinois voiced her concerns to i
the City Council on December 6, 1976, regarding dust problems from the l
thorium ore residue piles at the Kerr-McGee site. She had contacted the State of Illinois EPA regarding her concerns in June 1976 and the State had set up continuous air monitoring equipment on her property at the time.
However, she complained she was never furnished the results of the sampling program by the State or the NRC. The State air sampling program has shown no statistically significant results.
Samples taken by Region III during July 1976 confirmed the state's results.
On December 8, 1976, several local suburban newspapers covered the results of the City Council meeting. A second article appeared on December 10, 1976, voicing additional resident concerns about the matter.
Region-III and State of Illinois representatives have scheduled a meeting with concerned residents and City of West Chicago officials for December 14, 1976, to discuss sampling results.
