The information presented is as initially received without verification or evaluation and is basically all that is known by IE staff on this date.

AND FLOORS IN BASIC MEDICAL Sr.IENCE BUILDING The licensee informed Region III (Chicago) by telephone on December 16, 1976, that a liquid spill occurred in a biochem laboratory in Scott Hall on December 14, 1976. The spilled liquid contained an estimated ten to

.a twenty millicuriesiof phosphorus-32. The spill which was reported to the licensee's health physics personnel on December 15, 1976.

Initial assessment by the licensee indicates the biochem lab, adjacent hallways and elevators were contaminated. Airborne radioactivity concentrations

The licensee reported there has been no publicity on this matter. The State of Michigan has been informed.

IE:III was informed of this event via telephone at 8:30 a.m. on December 16, 1976.
