SUBJECT: NRC INSPECTION REPORT 50-133/98-03
. Dear Mr. Rueger;
On April 30,1998, the NRC completed an inspection at your Humboldt Bay Power Plant No. 3
facility. The enclosed report presents the scope and results of that inspection.
Major areas reviewed as part of this inspection included plans for future decommissioning of the
facility, including the removal of the Urit 3 stack and eventual dry cask storage of the Unit 3
spent fuel; environmental moritoring results for 1997; and the self-assessment and corrective
action program implemented at Humboldt Bay. No violations of NRC regulations were identified.
In addition to this inspection, the public meeting in response to the February 27,1998, update to
the Post-Shutdown Decommissioning Activities Report was conducted on April 29,1998.
In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the NRC's " Rules of Practice," a copy of this letter and its
enclosure will be placed in the NRC Public Document Roorn (PDR).
