COMANCHE PEAK STEAM ELECTRIC STATION (CPSES)
J' DOCKET N05. 50-445 AND 50-446 BROWN B0 VERI HK CIRCUIT BREAKERS SDAR: CP 89-012 (lhTERIM REPORT)
Gentlemen:
On May 1.1989. TU Electric verbally notified the NRC of a potentially reportable deficiency under the provisions of 10CFR50.55(e) concerning an ASEA Brown Boveri 10CFR21 notification to TV Electric involving failure of two 5HK250 circuit breakers to close on conmand.
Appendix D of the ASEA Brown Boveri 10CFR21 Report indicates that TU Electric-has received either 'K-Line" or *HK" circuit breakers from ASEA Brown Boveri.
The failure of the 5HK250 circuit breakers described in the report was attributed to hardened and discolored iubricant on the breaker operating mechanism.
Further evaluation is required to establish the applicability and safety significance of this issue.
TV Electric will provide a final report on this issue prior to Unit 1 fuel load.
Sincerely, William J. Cahill. Jr.
