Dear Sir:
This special report is submitted its accordance with LaSalle Unit 1 Operating License NPF-ll, Appendix A, Technical Specification 3.3.7.9 and 6.6.c.
Due to the construction activities associated with the Unit 1 "B" Reactor Recirculation Pump outage it was necessary to remove fire' detection zones 1-16 and.1-16p (Unit 1 drywell, 740' elevation) out of service on June 12, 1987, and June 18, 1987, respectively.
This measure was taken as a conservative precaution to prevent spurious zone fire alarms due to extensive welding and cutting in the areas.
In accordance with Action Statement "a" of Technical Specification 3.3.7.9, a fire watch patrol was established to inspect the drywell at least once per eight (8) hours during the time the detectors are inoperable.
The smoke detectors have been out of service in excess of the allowed fourteen (14) days prior to requiring a special report.
Fire detection zone 1-16 and 1-16P will be returned to service upon completion of the Unit 1 "B" Reactor Recirculation Pump outage.
