SUBJECT:

COMANCilE PEAK STEAM ELECTRIC STATION (CPSES)

DOCKET NOS. 50-445 AND 50-446 FIRE DETECTION SYSTEM PC BOARDS SDAR:.CP-87-38 (SUPPLEMENTAL REPORT) l Gentlemen:

a On July 15, 1987, TV Electric notified your Mr. I. Barnes of a potentially i

reportable deficiency involving possible excessive current damage to the annunciator circuitry of the printed circuit (PC) boards for the Fire j

Detection System.

This issue was subsequently determined not reportable j

pursuaiit to 10CF50.55(e) (reference TXX-7070 dated December 29, 1987);

however, a preventive action was specified.

This report is submitted to j

revise the preventive action for this issue.

{

h As discussed in previous correspondence, this problem was attributed to failure of CMLW lamp sockets used in the Detection System PC boards.

These i

sockets were replaced with UL listed DIALC0 sockets, and preventive action was l

to consist of a change to the specification for.the Fire Protection Panels (2323-ES-178) to include a requirement that components used within the panels have a UL or FM listing. Ilowever, additional review determined that the orginal specification contained this requirement and that the CMLW sockets were UL listed.

Consequently, no change to the specification is required.

Instead, changes were made to the applicable vendor drawings to specify the use of DIALC0 sockets for those sockets not otherwise specified.

TV Electric anticipates no further correspondence on this issue.

l Sincerely, 8903230484 890316 PDR ADOCK 05000445
