SETTLEMENT OF PROPOSED CIVIL PENALTY ~ ACTION - $200,000 m
By EN 85-44 and 85-44A dated May 29 and June 3, 1985, the Commission was
,9 notified of the intent of the staff to issue a Notice of Violation and
<.n ProposedImpositionofCivilPenaltyintheamountofFiveHundredThousan8 Dollars ($500,000) to Mississippi Power and Light Company, which held the NRC license for operation of t1e Grand Gulf Nuclear Power Plant at the time.
The action was based on alleged violations regarding the training program at Grand Gulf which occurred in 1981 and 1982.
The licensee responded.to the Notice in letter dated September 12, 1985 and December 9, 1985. After careful consideration of.the licensee's response and consultation with the Commission, the staff has concluded that settlement of this action with a Two Hundred Thousand Dollars ($200,000) civil penalty is appropriate.
Accordingly, a Settlement Agreement regarding tho Grand Gulf enforcement matter in EA 84-23 was finalized on October 22, 1987. A news release has been prepared and will be issued today.
