Dear Sir:
The reference 1 letter apprcved operation with greater opening positions for eighteen containment purge and vent valves on Peach Bottom Units 2 and 3 (nine each unit) contingent upon the Company providing additional confirmatory information.
The NRC requested confirmation that (1) the material for the valve shafts and pins have been replaced with a high strength steel and (2) the orientation of the valve disc with respect to the flow corresponds with the opening positions and valve sizes specified in the reference 1 letter.
Reference 3 confirmed that the nine Unit 3 valve modifications had been completed.
Reference 2 confirmed that eight of the nine Unit 2 valve modifications had been completed.
This i
letter confirms that the one remaining valve, Unit 2 AO-2519, has also been modified in accordance with the criteria presented in the reference 1 letter, as shown below.

l Heference 2 also specified that the Unit 2 AO-2511 and AO-2520 18-inch valves were oriented with flow into the hubside and that the new maximum opening angle was 55 degrees.
Since that time, these valves have been rotated such that flow is now into the flatside.
In accordance with the criteria presented in the reference 1 letter, the new maximum opening angle is now 65 degrees.
The modifications replaced the valve shaft and pin material with high strength steel.
Thus, all eighteen valves now have high strength shaft and pin materials, and the orientation of all eighteen valve discs is consistent with the reference 1 letter.
This fulfills the written confirmation requested by the NRC in the reference 1 letter.
Should you have any questions regarding this matter, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Very truly yours, cc:
