The purpose of this. letter is to inform the NRC of our intent to update our Non Destructive Examination (NDE) procedures used-during i

j Inservice Inspections, to the requirements of ASME Section V, 1983 Edition through Summer 1983 Addenda.

This update is being performed to support our second Ten Year Inservice Inspection Interval which l

will be based on the requirements of ASME Section XI, 1983 Edition

)

through Summer 1983 Addenda.

However, it is our intent to use the j

updated NDE procedures during the completion of our first Ten Year 1

Interval inservice inspections, which are based on the requirements 1

of ASME Section XI, 1974 Edition through Summer 1975 Addenda.

These inspections will be performed during our sixth refueling outage which is scheduled to begin on December 11, 1987.

The use of NDE procedures updated to the requirements of the later edition of ASME Section V is justified since the later edition of the Code provides improved rules and guidance on inspection techniques and meets or exceeds the requirements of the earlier edition of the Code.
