LICENSEE EVENT REPORT 87-015, Revision 1: CARBON DIOXIDE

' PROTECTED FIRE ZONES CO2 DELUGE SYSTEMS LEFT DEACTIVATED AND THE ZONES UNATTENDED

Dear Sirs:

In light of-pending changes in the use of the Fire Protection System the Sacramento Utility District hereby submits Revision 1 of the subject report. This revision of the report changes our commitments. The District has evaluated the past use of the Fire Protection System and how it has been deactivated for personnel safety reasons. As a result of this review the District is adopting a'new approach to the use of the Fire Protection System.

In the new approach the system will remain on when individuals ars in the area and will be deactivated if work could cause spurious actuation. This new methodology will be adopted after system i abort switches are in place, procedure revisions have been made, and training has been performed. The District expects completion of these items in early 1988.

Please contact me if you have any questions. Members of your staff with questions requiring additional information or

' clarification may contact Paul Lavely at (916) 452-3211, extension 4674.

Sincerely, i

i
