,i TROJAN NUCLEAR PLANT Trojan Operating Report February 1981 OPERATIONS The plant entered the month operating quietly at 100% power in Mode 1.

The fuel reconstitution effort which was begun in November was completed on February 8.

This significant effort was accomplished without a single personnel contamination and with only half the projected radiation exposure.

The small intermittent circulating water leak on the "A" train of the "A"

condenser that began in early Decemb<tr continued to be noticed on an intermittent basis.

Steam generator conductivity was maintained below the limits for unrestricted power operation.

Beginning at 0800 hours0.00926 days
0.222 hours
0.00132 weeks
3.044e-4 months
on February 25, power was reduced to 55%

and the "A" train circulating water system was drained to perform maintenance activities to eliminate the leak.

The "A"

train circulating water system was placed back in service at 2200

hours, with the leak indication still present but greatly reduced.

Power was increased to 100% by 0516 hours0.00597 days
0.143 hours
8.531746e-4 weeks
1.96338e-4 months
on February 26.

Resealing the condenser water box bolts eliminated the remainder of the leak indication.

The situation continues to be closely monitored.

During early February, the region was hit by a severe cold spell, resulting in record electrical demand and operating problems.

Freezing of water lines and icing of the cooling tower resulted in heavy workloads on Maintenance and Plant Modifications, but no significant adverse effect on plant operations resulted from the cold weather.

On February 19, power was reduced to 85%

for approximately fifteen hours to perform ex-core /in-core cross-calibration of nuclear instrumentation.

The plant ended the month operating quietly at 100% power in Mode l
