TVA letter frGa -1.

Gridley to NRC dated October 6, 1987, "Sequoyah Nuclear Plant (SQN) - Unit 2 - Pipe Support l

Modification Restart criteria Meeting Summary" Reference 1 requested NRC approval of cable tray support interim acceptance criteria at SQN.

As discussed in reference 1, "These criteria involve minor deviations to the original FSAR licensing commitments, yet ensure that the system functions required for safe power plant operation and accident mitigation are not compromised.... application of these criteria will serve as the basis for timely restart and operation of Sequoyah units 1 and 2.

Subsequently, full compliance to the original design bases and FSAR commitments will be reestat'lished, in accordance with a defined post-restart j

program schedule."

l Several NRC/TVA meetings and a technical audit, September 29 to l

October 3, 1986, were then conducted to refine and formalize the presented

)

criteria. Reference 2 thereupon granted NRC acceptance for the use of this interim criteria at SQN units 1 a nd 2.

TVA has currently assessed and is scheduling the actions required to ensure cable tray supports in category I structures meet long-term FSAR commitments for SQN unit 2.

All safety-related cable tray supports are scheduled to be in compliance with the FSAR commitments by unit 2 fuel cycle 4 outage (as documented in the enclosure).
