NPPD Response to Inspection Report 50-298/85-28 Dear Mr. Gagliardo This letter is written in response to your letter dated December 19, 1985, transmitting Inspection Report 50-298/85-28. Therein you identified one deficiency that was observed during our 1985 Emergency Preparedness Exercise and requested a schedule for correcting the deficiency.

The following is our response.

Response

The NPPD Emergency Planning Staff is actively seeking n means by which to correct this deficiency. Our Emergency Planning personnel are currently reviewing our present methodology concerning accountability elong with procedures from other utilities.

This review began immediately following our 1985 Emergency Exercise and has included the observation of accountability methods at another utility's annual exercise. Additional observation of other utility's drills and/or exercises

~ is planned.

Our present accountability procedure will be revised following the completion of this review. In addition to the above mentioned aspects of this review, k

accountability drills will be conducted in order to examine procedure 1'

evolution.

The full review cycle is expected to take four months with procedure revision and drills to follow. The estimated completion date for the entire project is July 16,1986.
