FACILITY: Sequoyah Nuclear Plant, Units 1 and 2

SUBJECT:

MEETING

SUMMARY

- JULY 13, 1987 ON CABLE TESTING PROGRAM On July 13, 1987, a meeting was held in Bethesda, Maryland among the NRC staff, representatives of TVA and respective consultants, to discuss the cable testing program. Attachment 1 is the list of attendees. Attachment 2 is a transcription and handout for the meeting.

j TVA had been conducting testing in accordance with their proposal of April 8, 1987. Following failure of some cables, they reevaluated their program and concluded that the test conditions were overly severe and could lead to damage and replacement of cables that are still capable of performing their required functions. i TVA is proposing a revised cable testing program to test 380 cables with a reduced test voltage, with water in the conduit when it can be added without adversely affecting reactor safety, and with each conductor tested separately.

The licensee stated in the meeting that its submittal will be provided by August, 1987 for NRC review. This submittal will include the test reports from the University of Connecticut and a report from the TVA cable testing task force.
