ORDER The responses of the Attorney General of Massachusetts and the NRC staff to the applicants' September 17, 1987 submission recpecting the Merrimac sirens prompt us to call upon the applicants to file a supplemental memorandum.

In that memorandum, the applicants should:

1.

In accordance with the staf f's suggestion, justify their estimate that the sound pressure levels of the Merrimac sirens are between 50 and 60 decibels.

2.

Bring to our attention any specific guidance that may have been provided by the NRC or the Federal Emergency Management Agency concerning the methodology to be employed in conducting ambient background sound level measurements.

3.

If the information is available, inform us of the siren sound pressure levels at the four locations where the Attorney General's consultant (Gregory C.

Tocci) conducted his measurements of the ambient background sound levels.
