Dear Mr. Taimi:

We have received your request for assistance in the review of the Decommissioning Plan for the Maxey Flats Low-Level Radioactive Waste Disposal Site.

The NRC staff will conduct a technical review of the closure plan and provide connents on it. The NRC Office of State Programs (OSP) will ']

coordinate the review within the NRC. We request that you send copics of the information to be reviewed directly to me at the Office of State Programs U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Comission Air Rights Building, Roon 5233, 4550 Montgomery Ave, Bethesda, Marylend 208}4 It would expedite the review if four copies of each document were provided and an express mail service is utilized.

As discussed with Ms. Carr the review schedule appears to short for a project of this complexity. However, we will do cur best to cest it.

We hope that the comments we provided on the preliminary draft closure plan (March 23,1983) will be considered in preparing the closure plan, referred to in your letter.
