DPR-42 50-306 DPR-60 License Amendment Request Dated September 28, 1987 Turbine Valve Test Frequency Reduction Attached is a request for a change in the Technical Specifications, Appendix A of the Operating Licenses, for the Prairie Island Nuclear Generating Plant.
This request is submitted in accordance with the provisions of 10 CFR Part 50, Section 50.90.
A check is attached in the amount of $150.00 in accordance with the requirements of 10 CFR 170 for the amendment application fee.
Exhibit A describes the proposed changes, provides the reasons for the changes, and provides the supporting safety evaluation /significant hazards evaluation.
Exhibit B contains the proposed Technical Specification.
Exhibit C contains the revised Technical Specification page.
This amendment request is based on an evaluation performed by Westinghouse Electric Corporation for the Westinghouse Owners Group Turbine Valve Test Frequency Evaluation Subgroup.
The results of this evaluation are contained in Westinghouse Electric Corporation topical report WCAP-11525, "Probabilistic Evaluation of Reduction in Turbine Valve Test Frequency".
WCAP-11525 demonstrates that significant increases in the interval between turbine valve functional tests can be achieved without exceeding the NRC neceptance criterga for the probability of a turbine missile ejection incident (1.0x10~ per year). A copy of WCAP-11529 (non-proprietary copy of WCAP-11525 )is attached as Exhibit D.
WCAP-11525 will be submitted under separate cover.
