TROJAN NUCLEAR PLANT Summary of Operating Experience - September 1987 OPERATIONS The plant entered the month in Mode 1 at 55% power.

Power I

was limited to about 65% for the entire month because only one circulating water pump was available, due to a phase-to-ground fault which occurred in the other circulating water pump in August.

It is anticipated that.the damaged pump j

will be repaired by mid-October.

On September 1, pressurizer power-operated relief valve PCV-456 exhibited leakage and was isolated by closing the downstream j!

block valve.

On September 7, high vibration was detected on the

'B' main feedwater pump and the pump was removed from service.

Inspec-tion revealed that one blade had detached from the pump I

turbine rotor and two other blades had minor damage.

The pump turbine was shipped off-site for repair, and reinstal-lation began on September 30.

On September 25, power was reduced from 65% to 50% to repair

- 3 the

'C' feedwater regulating valve which was exhibiting sluggish oepration.

Power was returned to 65% later in'the day following repairs.

On September 27, leakage from boron injection tank outlet relief valve PSV-8852 was detected.

This valve is located in the Emergency Core Cooling System recirculation' flow path i

and was leaking greater than the flow rate assumed in the l

Final Safety Analysis Report.

Because recirculation leakage j

is a significant contributor to control' room personnel thyroid j

doses following a loss of Coolant Accident, the plant was i

shutdown on September 28 to effect repairs to PSV-8852.

Startup began on October 1.

MAINTENANCE The following major maintenance was completed during September

Pressurizer pressure transmitter PT-455 was replaced.

Repaired

'C' feodwater regulating valve FCV-530.

Page Two LICENSE AMENDMENTS One Amendment to the Trojan Operating License was received:

Amendment 134 - Revises the lift setpoint tolerance for the pressurizer and main steam safety valves from 11% to 12%.
