IM0 DELAVAL FUEL INJECTION PUMP t

SDAR: CP-89-002 (INTERIM REPORT)

Gentlemen:

On January 25,1989, TV Electric verbally notified Mr. J. S. Wiebe of a potential deficiency. involving the IMO Delaval Fuel Injection Pump. This is an interim report of a potentially reportable item under the provisions of

.q 10CFR50.55(e)

A Cooper Industries Part 21 Notice to.the NRC dated December' 20, 1988' indicates that a component.part (of the fuel injection pumps) manufactured by-Bendix during July 1977'and stamped "Bendix 7/77" may be' defective and should be replaced. A walkdown has determined that the stamped markings on the' affected part cannot be'seen unless the fuel injection pump is partially disassembled.

Consequently, applicability of this issue to CPSES cannot be determined until the injection pumps have been partially disassembled and examined.

l The spare IMO Delaval fuel injection pumps in the warehouse will be' l

disassembled and examined. Any affected components.in those pumps will be i

replaced.
