SUMMARY

OF DISCUSSIONS WITH CYGNA On August 18, 1987, the NRC staff (D. Terao) and consultant (Dr. W. P. Chen) visited the CYGNA office in Walnut Creek, California. The discussions with

' CYGNA (N. Williams) focused primarily on the overall content of the CYGNA Phase 4 Report and the estimated schedule for issuance.

The staff was told that there would be six separate reports issued by CYGNA addressing five specific design areas - 1) piping, 2) civil / structural, 3) cable tray supports, 4) conduit supports, and 5) mechanical / electrical / instrumentation and control - and one report on design control. Each report will be all-inclusive covering issues from the CYGNA Independent Assessment Program, Phases 1, 2, and 3.

The previously issued CYGNA IAP Reports (Phases 1, 2, and 3) will be superseded with the Phase 4 Reports.

The staff further discussed the extent of CYGNA's design control review and the need for a public meeting prior to its issuance. A copy of the CYGNA schedule for the Phase 4 Reports is provided as an Enclosure to this memorandum.
