l OPERATIONS

SUMMARY

JUNE,1987 The unit entered June at 100% power with the "A" letdown cooler out of service due to tube leakage.

On June 12, 1987, a plant shutdown commenced to replace both letdown coolers.

Following a 15 day outage, the plant returned to 100%

power.on June 27,1987 at 2355 hours0.0273 days
0.654 hours
0.00389 weeks
8.960775e-4 months
. The plant continued to operate at.100%

power for the remainder of the month producing 860 MWe gross electrical generation.

MAJOR SAFETY RELATED MAINTENANCE j

1 During the month of June, the following major maintenance items were performed.

River Water Pump NR-P-1 A - Pump NR-P-1 A overhaul was completed during the month of June.

The pump was disassembled and inspected. The bowl assembly, shafts, tubes and bearings were replaced, and the pump was then reassembled.

The motor was overhauled and reinstalled / coupled to the pump.

Vibration readings were taken and the pump / motor balanced within the vibration. analysis program limits. The pump was operationally tested and returned to service.

Letdown Coolers MU-C-1 A/B - The letdown coolers, MU-C-1 A/B, were replaced because of excessive leaks between the tubes and shell.

The new coolers were inspected, flushed and had weld end preparations completed prior to moving into the Reactor Building.

Interference items in the letdown cooler room (MU-V-2A/B motor operators, electric leads to IC-V-1 A/B, etc. ) were removed, j

hangers were pinned / blocked, insulation removed and air conditioners were set i

up. The work area was shielded and welding machines set up. The old coolers

]

were cut out of the system and were removed from the Reactor Building.

The new coolers were moved into place, fit-up and welded in.

NDE was performed and the welds were found to be satisfactory.

Interference items were reinstalled, hangers were unpinned / unblocked, insulation was reinstalled and support items removed.

One of the failed coolers was cut open for failure analysis (will continue in July). All work was completed and the hydrostatic testing of the new coolers was satisfactory. All work on the new coolers is complete.

l NI-1 Cable - Signal Cable NI-l going from the Reactor Building penetration to the pre-amp was replaced along with the connectors. Also, the signal cable going from the pre-amp to the detector was replaced.

Brand-rex cable was used to replace the existing cable.
