SECY-87-116 - EXISTING ^ LICENSES AUTHORIZING IMPORT OF URANIUM OF SOUTH-AFRICAN ORIGIN This is 'txi advise you that the Commission (with Chairman Zech and Commissioners.Bernthal'and.Carrfagreeing) has approved the staff's recommendation'to' meet with the Executive Branch in a closedi session to discuss the. issue of import of uranium of South African origin.

Commissioner Bernthal has requested that the staff seek.a formal legal analysis from the Executive Branch prior to the

. Commission meeting, so that OGC has a good understanding of the basis of the Executive Branch position.

Chairman Zech and Commissioner Asselstine believe that an. I order / binding reporting requirement should be issued immedi-ately to require existing licensees to give the Commission advance notice of any further uranium ore or uranium oxide imports into the U.S.
