- Attachment B12684/Page1 NRC Request Provide a confirmation that your commitment to NUTAC/VETIP includes the objective of " Internal Handling of Vendor Services," described on page 23 of the March 1984 NUTAC report, and includes the enhancements described in Section 3.2 of the report to the extent that Northeast Nuclear Energy Company (NNECO), or
. Connecticut Yankee Atomic Power Company (CYAPCO), can control or influence such enhancements, NNECO/CYAPCO Response CYAPCO and NNECO. hereby reaffirm their commitment to implement the NUTAC/VETIP program as described in the March,1984 NUTAC report, including the enhancements noted in Section 3.2 of the report to the extent that CYAPCO and NNECO can control or influence such enhancements. CYAPCO's and NNECO's implementation of the NUTAC/VETIP also includes the objective of " Internal Handling of Vendor Services" as described on page 23 of the March 1984 NUTAC report.
NRC Request CYAPCO and NNECO should establish a program to periodically contact vendors of key components (such as auxiliary feed pumps, safety-related batteries, ECCS pumps and safety-relcted valve operators) to facilitate the exchange of current technical information.
In the case of diesel generator and safety-related switchgear vendors, a formal interface such as that with the NSSS vendor should be established, if practicable.
NNECO/CYAPCO Response CYAPCO and NNECO do not have any formal interface programs for specific safety-related components outside of the NSSS (i.e., emergency diesels, switchgear vendors, etc.).
Instead, CYAPCO and NNECO seek assistance and Equipment Technical Information (ETI) from the vendors when problem resolution indicates that such direct interaction is necessary. In addition, CYAPCO and NNECO utilize the NPRDS, SEE-IN and Nuclear Network to obtain information relevant to plant equipment operation.
CYAPCO and NNECO believe that any attempt to establish a formal contact j
program with the vendors of non-NSSS components would provide a marginal j
increase in the flow of information on non-NSSS related components, when compared to the magnitude of the effort to define, classify and set up such l
programs.
