In response to the NRC staff's concerns regarding the potential for the dissolution of zinc from the diesel generator fuel oil storage tank coating from the Unit 1 tanks, samples were collected and analyzed with the following results:
Date Tank Zine (PPM) 8/22/87 Train A 7.2 8/22/87 Train B 6.6 9/11/87 Train A 7.2 9/11/87 Train B 5.6 For the samples on 8/22/87 the tanks were recirculated before sampling and the samples were drawn from approximately the middle of the tanks.
The samples on 9/11/87 were drawn from the top of the tanks and no recirculation was done before sampling.
The fuel oil has been stored in both tanks for approximately two years.
The total inorganic material, including the zinc, in the fuel oil tested was less than 10 PPM.

GN-1400 September 30, 1987 Page two The fuel oil samples were analyzed directly by flame atomic absorption spectrophotometry, using organometallic standards and an appropriate solvent for dilution.
