A meeting was held at the request of General Electric Company (GE) at Silver i
Spring, Maryland, on September 22, 1987, concerning the proposed design of the Model No. 2000 package.
Discussion Attached is a sketch of the Model No. 2000 package design.
The discussion centered mainly on proposed modifications to the joint in the impact limiter / fire shield.
This joint failed in the model. test and has been strengthened to meet the maximum forces seen in the model drop tests (408 g's).
Some discussion was given to the lead pour method and procedures. The NRC staff was satisfied that the engineering approaches being taken by GE are reasonable in demonstrating the package design meets the requirements of 10 CFR Part 71, i
GE expects to submit an application. for the package in eight weeks.
