Subject:

USNRC Inspection Report No. 87-05 Dated May 18, 1987 Gentlemen:

Maine Yankee appreciates the completeness and thoroughness of the subject inspection.

However, to avoid confusion regarding the stated commitment, in Reference (b) to " increase QA/QC involvement in the overall Local Leak Rate Test Program", we offer the following to more clearly state our intent.

The inspector stated in Section 4.0 of the subject inspection report that,

... it was determined that QA does not evaluate overall LLRT program adequacy....".

Therefore:

1.

By October 31, 1987 the Quality Assurance Department shall evaluate overall LLRT program adequacy.

Included in this evaluation will be a review of QA/QC involvement and, based upon this review, adjustments can be made as deemed appropriate.
