9 NRC STAFF 8S RESPONSE TO JOINT MOTION OF SAPL, TOWN OF HAMPTON, AND THE COMMONWEALTH OF MASSACHUSETTS i

On June 22, 1987, the Seacoast Anti-Pollution League, Town of Hampton, and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts filed a joint motion requesting. that the Board " arrange to take a view of the Seabrook Station

. plume exposure EPZ, and particularly the Hampton, Seabrook, and Salisbury Beach areas, on a sunny day during the sammer of 1987" (Motion, at 1). The movants note (1) that precedent exists for such a tour, inasmuch as the Board has previously viewed the plant, the cooling water tunnels, and contested transmission line routings; (2) that FEMA has expressed " concern over the protection of the beach populations";

and (3) that such a viewing would " provide background knowledge through which the Board could better understand" the anticipated expert and lay testimony in the forthcoming hearings (Id., at 1-2).

The Staff would not oppose a viewing of the EPZ or portions thereof, provided the Board determines that such a viewing could be of assistance to it in the forthcoming hearings.

However, in that event, the
