50-317/87-18; 50-318/87-20 Gentlemen:
The subject inspection report identifie(t concerns regarding the definition of our system engineers' duties and responsibilities, as well as inter-departmental communications of engineering and regulatory requirements. We acknowledge these are weaknesses and are taking actions to strengthen them.
In addition to those actions discussed during the senior management meeting held in Bethesda, Maryland (Reference a), we are providing system engineers more detailed and focused job definitions / descriptions. Also, a System Engineer Training Program, (which has been under development for some time) is being implemented this month. We will continue to monitor these areas and will take further action if the results do not meet our expectations.
