DAILY HIGHLIGHT CONCERNING VISIT BY JAPANESE On September 21, 1987, a party of approximately 18 representatives of the " LWR f
d Technology Sophistication Steering Committee" of the Japanese Ministry of International Trade and Industry met with the NRR staff to discuss questions

which the Japanese had regarding their program for upgrading their nuclear power development program in Japan. The staff discussed the current plans in domestic standardization programs - both the advanced reactors and the evolutionary designs for the 1990s and the Commission's standardization policy.
Also discussed were the following subjects: extension of reactor operating cycles, currents limits on length of operating cycles, containment surveillance requirements, factors which limit plant life, methods of evaluating coinponents for plant life extension, fuel development, especially in the area of high burnup,andsiteswithaagtureofsmallandlargeunits.
