50-312/87-11)
Dear Mr. Martin:
By letter dated April 20, 1987, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission issued a Notice of Deviation concerning activities at the Rancho Seco Nuclear Generating Station.
The District responded to the Notice of Deviation by letter, dated May 18, 1987.
The response letter acknowledged the deviation cited and described the District's intended corrective actions for each specific item listed in the Notice of Deviation.
On June 3,1987, Mr. A. E. Chaffee of the Commission requested the District to provide further clarification of our May 18, 1987, response regarding the recording of calibration data for instruments used during surveillance which are currently being performed.
This letter provides clarification of the I
District's response.
Until all surveillance procedures are revised and issued in the new format, an interim measure has been established to assure that calibration due dates are t
documented for all installed plant instrumentation other than Control Room instrumentation used to record data in the old-formatted surveillance 1
procedure.

The interim measure implements a " Surveillance Procedure Installed Instrumentation Data Sheet" which requires documentation of calibration dates for instruments used to collect surveillance data.
Completion of the
" Surveillance Procedure Installed Instrumentation Data Sheet" is required for all old-formatted surveillance procedures.
If there are any questions concerning this response, please contact Mr. Ron Colombo at (916) 452-3211, extension 4236.
