Dear Senator Specter:

\\

~

I want to urge you to support many other Americans and Pennsylvanians in a petition filed with the NRC requesting that licenses and construction permits for all Babco:: & Wilcox nuclear power plants be suspended until the following conditions have been satisfied:

1) the NRC completes its promised safety reassement of the B&W design;
2) public hearings are held to q

determine modifications needed to bring B&W reactors up to an adequate level of safety; and, 3) the necessary safety modifica-i tions have been implemented.

]

As a resident of the TMI area, I insist that the NRC give me and my neighbors something more than empty promises.

The NRC has already revealed through its research that B&W reactors--like the one we have in Unit I, at TMI--are more dangerous than other plant designs.

To my knowledge NOTHING is being done to rectify l

the deficiencies in Unit I.

Federal law requires that the NRC prevent the operation of any nucler power plant in which there I

may be reasonable doubt as to the danger it presents to the l

health and safety of the public.

1 I seek your support in demanding that the NRC give the public an accounting of its responsibilities.

Sincerely yours,

/
