FOR RENEWAL

i Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) memorandum SGTB:CEW 71-9186 dated June 10, 1987 states.that the current NRC Certificate of Compliance (CoC) for the Model S-6213 Shipping Container will expire on August 31, 1987 and should be renewed if continued use of this container is desired.
Naval Reactors review has determined that the NRC CoC for most Naval Reactors shipping i
containers will expire during the.next year.
Naval Reactors plans to continue use of most of the shipping containers curreritly certified by the NRC.
Even thcogh Naval I
Reactors, as an office within the Department of Energy,' ships under the authority of DOE issued CoCs, the NRC CoCs demonstrate that the review and standards used by Naval Reactors for certification are equivalent to those used by the NRC.
Therefore, the FiRC is requested to renew CoCs for the Naval Reactors containers listed in Enclosure (1) to this memorandum.
There have been no container modifications or operational experience which would preclude continued certification of these containers.
Enclosure (2) contains a list of NRC CoCs for Naval Reactors shipping containers no longer being used.
Naval' Reactors will not request renewal of these CoCs.
F.enewal of the NRC CoCs for the remainder of the shipping containers used by Naval Reactors will be the subject of separate i
correspondence.
