Oregon State University TRIGA Reactor (OSTR), Docket No. 50-243, License No. R-106 In accordance with the reporting requirements stated in the Technical Specifications. for the Oregon State University TRIGA Reactor. and the'sub-mittal requirements for written communications outlined in 10 CFR 50.4, we are forwarding to you five copies of the OREGON STATE UNIVERSI7Y TRIGA REACTOR ANNUAL REPORT for the reporting period July 1,1986 through June 30, 1987. In addition, please' note that we are using this letter of transmittal to send one copy of the report to Mr. Al Adams, Division of Licensing, Washington, D.C., and three copies to the Regional Administrator of the USNRC's Region V office.

As a brief introduction to this year's report, I am pleased to high-light the fact that the OSU TRIGA reactor showed a 17% increase in the.

number of funded research projects accommodated; a 38% increase in the number of student projects accommodated; a 41% increase in the number of research projects performed for Oregon State System of Higher Education schools other than OSU and for other academic institutions; a 6% increase

'in the number of reactor facility use hours per week (we are now at the maximum for a one-shift orention); a 4% increase in the number of full-power operating hours comp red to our 5-year average; and a 41% increase in the number of visitors to the facility.

In addition to the increased use of the OSU reactor, we are equally pleased to report that we were able to reduce the amount of argon-41 re-leased by another 9% over last year's value, which as you may recall was approximately 17% below the previous year's total.
