Operating License No. DPR-50 Docket No. 50-289 Emergency Response Capability Conformance to Regulatory Guide 1.97 GPUN letter 5211-86-2097, dated June 5, 1986, provided specific responses and clarifications to NRC comments and open items presented in the NRC's assessment of the adequacy of TMI-l conformance with Regulatory Guide 1.97, dated November 25, 1985. Additional updated information concerning i
TMI-1 conformance to Regulatory Guide 1.97 has been submitted for NRC review via GPUN letters 5211-87-2087, dated May 7,1987, and 5211-87-2103, dated May 27, 1987.
GPUN is committed to complete modifications in accordance with Regulatory Guide 1.97 as described in the above referenced submittals.
Consistent with this commitment, engineering activities associated with the refueling outage 7R scope of Regulatory Guide i 97 modifications are presently scheduled to be completed by November 30, 1987.
In order to achieve the present schedule, detailed engineering and design is proceeding based on the positions described in our various submittals referenced above.
Any potential changes in the present THI-l approach to Regulatory Guide 1.97 which may impact engineering, design or procurement will have a high probability of impacting our capability to complete the 7R scope of Regulatory Guide i.97 modifications by the end of refueling outage 7R.
Accordingly, we request that NRC provide comments, if any, to our previous documents and issue a Safety Evaluation Report prior to August 1,1987 such that engineering, design and procurement activities can be completed to support the schedule commitments. Comments received after August 1, 1987 will not be incorporated in the design without extending the completion date to the next available refueling outage, 8R.
