Subject:
Special Report on Inoperability of the Cardox System Gentlemen:
As required by Technical Specification 3.23.C.2, Maine Yankee is reporting inoperability of the Cardox system. The system was inoperable for 26 days due to a failed relay on the cable vault zone.
On May 19, i987, a relay in the cable vault zone was found to be i
inoperable during routine surveillance testing. A replacement relay was j
ordered from the manufacturer. This relay was installed and tested on June 11, 1987. A full functional test of the Cardox System was conducted on June 13, 1987.
Following successful completion of the relay and system testing, the Cardox system was declared operable.
During the period that the system was inoperable, Maine Yankee established a fire watch and provided backup fire suppression equipment as required by Technical Specification 3.23.C.l.
