4 LICENSEE'S RESPONSE.TO THE COMMONWEALTH OF PENNSYLVANIA'S PETITION TO PARTICIPATE

'AS AN INTERESTED STATE On July 31, 1987, notice was' published in the Federal Regis-ter concerning GPU Nuclear Corporation's (" Licensee's") request for an amendment to the operating license of'Three Mile Island, Unit'2 ("TMI-2").

The amendment would delete the current prohi-bition on disposal of TMI-2's accident-generated water.

The no-l tice afforded interested persons an opportunity to request a hearing and to petition for leave to intervene.

On September 3, 1987, a petition to participate as an inter-ested state pursuant to 10 C.F.R.

S 2.715(c) was filed by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
