Docket Nos. 50-348 50-364 U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Attn: Document Control Desk Washington, D. C. 20555 Gentlemen:

On March 2, 1987, Alabama Power Company received notice from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission Document Control Desk that the Document Control Desk will no longer annually verify the proper revision number for controlled copies of Farley Nuclear Plant's Emergency Implementing Procedures. This decision, if not reversed in the near future, could place Alabama Power Company in violation of its commitments to the NRC to meet the requirements of American National Standard N18.7, paragraph 5.2.15, " Review, Approval and Control of Procedures."

It is requested that the NRC reconsider this action and continue verifying current controlled procedures. This will allow Alabama Power Company to continue to be in compliance with the regulations to which we have committed and, furthermore, ensure the immediate availability of current procedures for use by the NRC in the event of an emergency condition at Farley Nuclear Plant.
