' I am responding to your letter dated August 27,1997, in which you requested approval of a vehicle immobilization device to be used for highway transport of irradiated reactor fuel in accordance with 10 CFR 73.37(c)(4).
We have reviewed your submittal and have no objection to the use of the device. Note that 10 CFR 73.37(c)(5) requires that the transport vehicle driver be familiar with, and be capable of ;
implementing, immobilization procedures. These procedures should address traffic safety '
aspects of device activation.~ Also note that operability and effectivenss of the device, the immobilization procedures, and driver training are subject to future inspection. If you have any questions, please contact Mr. John Cook at 301-415-8521.
