Dear Mr.--Reid:

By letter dated April 14, 1997, Vermont Yankee Nuclear Power Corporation (VYNPC) submitted for NRC review and approval Report YAEC-1339 titled, " Yankee Atomic Electric Com Reload Analysis." pany Application of FIBWR2 Core Hydraulics Code to BWR Thw FIBWR2 Code, which is a new version of FIBWR, will be used to validate reload analyses that include new fuel types with part length fuel rods and varied water tube designs.

The NRC staff has reviewed your submittal, and, based on its review, finds that responses to the enclosed request for additional information are needed before we can complete our_ review.

Please provide your responses within 30 days from the date of this letter.

On page 4 of YAEC-1339, you stated that "FIBWR2 contains the vendor correlation." Please explain what correlations you plan to use with FIBWR2 and what verification analyses you have to perform with these correlations?

In Figure 3-4, (page 33 of YAEC-1339), why is the calculated void fraction higher than the analytical solution in the 2.:' 2.5 second timeframe of the flow oscillation transient?

On page 35, of YAEC-1339 you stated that "FIBWR2 is structured to allow implementation of fuel vendor specific correlations." What correlations have already been implemented in your coding and what procedure will you use to verify any additional correlations you add to FIBWR27 ENCLOSURE
