Dear Mr. Curtiss:
Thank you fcr your letter of March 17,1998, which provided comments and insights from the licensees who participate in the Maintenance Rule inspection Clearinghouse (MRIC). We are always pleased to receive feedback from licensees.. ~As you know, the maintenance rule is the :
NRC's first risk-informed, performance based rule, and as such it is important that we continue to -
ensure it is properly implemented by the industry, and inspected and enforced by the staff. This
- includes ensuring good communications with the industry and soliciting feedback on the results
. of inspections.
In that light, I would like to invite your group to participate in a public meeting at NRC '
headquarters at your convenience, perhaps in conjunction with the meeting of the MRIC group which you are hosting in Washington D.C. Later this month. ' Both Rich Correia and I will be available to discuss the specific comments contained in your letter, as well as other topics that your group may wish to address.' This meeting will be open to any licensee or member of the public who chooses to attend. _ Additionally, a summary of the meeting will be issued and, also, posted on the NRC's Maintenance Rule Home Page on the world wide web.
