RESPONSE TO JUNE 9,1997 LETTER REQUESTING COMMENT PERIOD EXTENSION

Dear Mr. Johnson,

I am responding to your letter of June 9,199/, to the Chief, Rules Review and Directives Branch, U. S Nuclear Regulatory Commission, in which you requested an extension of the comment period from 30 days to 60 days (June 19,1997, to July 19,1997) on the proposed supplement to NRC Bulletin 96-01, " Control Rnd insertion Problems "

Although there have been some changes, in general, the proposed Bulletin Supplement contains information that has been presented and discussed with the industry for several months. Therefore, we do not wish to extend me official comment period. However, comments received within 60 days (by July 19,1997) were considered to the extent possible.
