Gentlemen:
On October 30, 1997, the U.
S.
Nuclear Regulatory Commission issued a safety evaluation (SER) as documented in Reference 2.
The SER stated that the Staff considers the Joint Owners Group (JOG) Program on Motor Operated Valve (MOV)
Periodic Verification an acceptable method to address Generic Letter (GL) 96-05, " Periodic Verification of Design-Basis Capability of Safety-Related Motor-j l
Operated Valves."

The JOG agreed that, once approved by the NRC, participating licensees would notify the NRC of their plans to implement the JOG program described in Reference 1, and that any deviations from the JOG program would be justified.
By this letter, Wolf Creek Nuclear Operating Corporation (WCNOC) is providing notification that it plans to continue participating in the JOG MOV Periodic Verification Program as a member of the Westinghouse Owners Group and to implement the program elements described in Reference 1.
