Attention: Document Control Desk l Washington, DC 20555-0001 Seabrook Station License Amendment Request 98-01, "Ventina ^f Operating Chemical Volume and Control System Centrifugal Charging Pumn" North Atlantic Energy Service Corporation (North Atlantic) has enclosed herein License Amendment Request (LAR) 98-01. LAR 98-01 is submitted pursuant to the requirements of 10 CFR 50.90 and 10 CFR 50.4.

LAR 98-01 proposes a change to Seabrook Station Technical Specification (TS) Surveillance Requirement TS 4.5.2b.1 to exclude the prescriptive requirement to vent the operating Chemical Volume l and Control System (CVCS) centrifugal charging pump (CCP) casing. Mandatory venting of the ]

operating CCP is unnecessary since the CCPs are designed and installed to be self-venting, particularly when operating under dynamic conditions.

LAR 98-01 has been reviewed and approved by the Station Operation Review Committee and the Nuclear Safety Audit Review Committee.

As discussed in the enclosed LAR Section IV, the proposed ch . age does not in /olve a signmcant hazard consideration pursuant to 10 CFR 50.92. A copy of this letter and the enclosed LAR have been forwarded to the New Hampshire State Liaison Officer pursuant to 10 CFR 50.91(b). North Atlantic requests NRC review of LAR 98-01 and imnce of a license amendment by March 31,1998 (see /

Section V enclosed).
