Thank you for your letter of June 13,1997. Please accept my congratulations on your new position as President and Director of the Techno Chubu Company. I wish you great success with the opportunities and challenges of your new position.
I have many good memories from my two official visits to Japan as the NRC Chairman, including my visit to the Hamaoka Nuclear Power Station. It certainly was my pleasure meeting with you and discussing energy and safety matters. The U.S. and Japan have a strong collaborative partnership in the area of nuclear power, and the exchange of information and ideas resulting from this partnership is important in strengthening nuclear safety in both of our countries.
Please let me know if you will have the opportunity to visit the U.S., and to come to Washington. I would be pleased to meet with you again to continue our discussion of these important issues.
