10 CFR PART 21 REPORT FOR MODEL NOS. 770 AND 771 PACKAGES 1

Dear Ms. Roughan:

We have received and reviewed your report under 10 CFR 21.21 dated September 3,1999, for the Model Nos. 770 and 771 transport packages for industrial radiography sources. The report indicated that the Model No. 770 package failed during hypothetical accident conditions testing.

The package was retested under Confirmatory Action Letter (CAL)97-7-005, dated June 10, 1997.

A justification for continued use of the packages was submitted as part of the 10 CFR Part 21 submittal. The applicant concluded that there would be no increased risk to the general public in continuing to transport the packages. The applicant also stated that changes will be made to the packages and they will be retested in order to demonstrate compliance with 10 CFR Part 71.
