Dear Mr. Mailay:
We have received your letters of February 24,1998, "Siemens Power Corporation - Nuclear Division Responses to the Demand for Information, Notice of Nonconformance, and Unresolved items (Inspection Report 99900081/97-01)," and " Reply to a Notice of Nonconformance (Inspection Report 99900081/97-01)," and March 20,1998, " Supplemental Reply to a Notice of Nonconformance (Inspection Report 99900081/97-01).' The staff is currently reviewing those -
responses. Due to the amouM of information provided, the staff anticipates that we will be able to complete our initial review by June 30,1998.
Our review will include information Siemens had previously provided to the staff. It should be
' noted that some of the information needed to fully resolve the issues included in our inspection
. report is not scheduled to be submitted by Siemens until later this year. Review of this material i
- will be necessary to resolve several of the open issues. Completion of the review of those items
' will be deferred until the staff receives and evaluates all relevant information. Resolution of 1
many of the issues will be accomplished by issuance of Safety Evaluation Reports on Siemens' topical reports.
The staff also notes that many of the issues discussed in your response to the inspection report and Demand for Information changes or augments Siemens' intemal documentation. In those cases, we will review the documentation to determine the adequacy of your implementation of corrective actions during a future inspection.
In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the NRC's " Rules of Practice," a copy of this letter will be placed in the NRC's Public Document Room.
